Secular Badges
Secular badges were popular in the medieval period as either lover’s tokens or livery badges. All of the badges below are accurate copies of surviving pewter artefacts. For information on the history of secular badges please refer to the ‘History’ section of the website.
S33a-Annular Brooch (with authentic functional cross pin)
The original artefact from which this replica is taken was found in the River Seine. Items of pewter jewellery such as this imitated the magnificent gaudily set jewels so loved by the nobility at the time.
Please note that this version is fitted with modern brooch pins & the cross pin is non functional. This is the version to choose for modern wear.
